Meet the Band

Larry Lucas, Vicki Gillespie, Rick Reynolds, Lanette Pennell, Larry Nolen
The Texas Commission on the Arts has once again placed The Almost Patsy Cline Band on it’s preferred list for the upcoming 2012-2014 season! Officially, the “Touring Artists and Companies Roster” is a Who’s Who of Texas entertainers who tour the state. Qualifying non-profit organizations in Texas may apply for grants to help bring these acts to their communities. The Almost Patsy Cline Band first applied to be considered for the TCA Roster in 2008. Since their acceptance that year, the band has performed dance music and stage shows for numerous presenters with many return engagements.
This band has a strong sense of community. In 2003, Denise Griffin, Mayor of Bandera, declared The Almost Patsy Cline Band the Official City Goodwill Ambassadors. 2004 brought the Cowboy Capital Award from the Bandera County Chamber of Commerce, awarded for spreading the brand of The Cowboy Capital of the World.
As the band grew, it became apparent that the public was starving for traditional music from legendary artists of the past. Band members Larry Nolen (guitars, vocals), Larry Lucas (guitars, vocals) and Rick Reynolds (drums, vocals) offer songs from George Strait, Bob Wills, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Ray Price, Chuck Berry, Elvis and and even Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams – among others. Pennell and Gillespie deliver the balance of the female legends with a focus on songs of the Patsy Cline era.
The Almost Patsy Cline band continues to perform throughout the state for Texans and visitors alike. You may have seen them at Celebrate Bandera, The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, The Gillespie County Fair, the Texas Association of Fairs and Events Showcase in Austin or at numerous private parties, dance clubs, corporate events and fundraisers.

Thank you! You are such pros and did a beautiful job! I have to share with you that I have produced thousands (way too many) events. And I didn’t even think of the band until you guys started setting up. Now – I know that I am not saying this right, but with all the details and concerns of any event, typically I am double checking the set up time, the sound check time, the song line up (and the appropriateness!), whether or not they will be OK with me raising and lowering the volume, etc. etc. I didn’t worry even for one second about the entertainment on Tuesday night. There are truly only two bands in this world for which I have 100% confidence – and you are one!! Thank you for making this part of the event flawless and worry-free.
I wish I could express my gratitude to you and your colleagues. You all are the whole package – talented, generous, fun, thoughtful and wonderful. It was such a pleasure working with you, and I look forward to doing so again very soon. I hope that you will call on me - as a friend – to assist you in other projects and endeavors that are meaningful to your band. You have done so much for Mission Road.
I spent a few minutes this morning – sneaking out of my office – and hanging out with our adult Day Services clients. I am reminded of how many precious souls in this world really are so vulnerable – who need and deserve the special protection, respect and care of an organization like Mission Road. Thank you for making a direct and lasting (and loving!) difference in these folks’ lives.
Thank you – for everything! — Lynette Nelson, Mission Road Ministries, San Antonio, TX
Wow, what crowd pleasers! The Almost Patsy Cline Band can mesmerize an audience! They were the feature band at our Longhorn Cattle Drive during Celebrate Bandera – 150 Years. Our vendors were thrilled because their music kept the crowd “hopping” and “shopping”!

I can’t say enough about the Almost Patsy Cline Band’s contribution to the success of our Farm Country Club Country Christmas Ball. The fact that this was their third year to play the event, and it sold out two weeks before the announced deadline, is a pretty good indication of their popularity. The Country Christmas Ball is a Texas two-stepper’s party and their music is perfect for the event! 830-589-2276
—Homer Stevens, Owner The Farm Country Club
The Almost Patsy Cline Band is perfect if you want to keep customers on the dance floor.
—Wiley Alexander, Texas Country Music Hall of Fame
I had the pleasure of booking The Almost Patsy Cline Band for two parties at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio. They made the parties lively, memorable, and got people up and dancing. Very professional and easy to work with. True Country Music with class.

Vicki’s versatile singing style and acting have been enjoyed by Texans and visitors to Texas since the early 1980s. Her voice has been described as “smooth liqueur,” and when you hear her sing you will agree.
You may have seen her in two very successful musicals; “The Quilters” and “Pump Boys and Dinettes” at the Point Theater in Ingram, Texas. Or – you may have seen her performing at any number of conventions and events across the state. In 2001, Vicki and Lanette formed The Almost Patsy Cline Band. First and foremost Larry considers himself a writer and would love to find his songs a home with a major label artist. Larry believes that writers, musicians, artists, and lover’s of the arts are all of the same spirit.
Larry has country music in his blood. His first appearance on stage was in the arms of his father, Larry Sr., at the Grand Ole Opry. He has played lead guitar for several national touring acts and now wants to concentrate on writing and performing with the Almost Patsy Cline Band.
Larry takes care of the sound requirements for the APC Band and is sound engineer at Songriders Recording Studio in Kingsbury, TX.
